Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings new release
From Shock Records | 08 Feb 2010
On April 2, 2010, Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings will release I Learned the Hard Way, their fourth full-length on Brooklyn’s independent Daptone Records. The record marks a bold step forward for a band who almost singlehandedly stewarded today’s return of soul music to its more traditional sound.
From the lush Philly-Soul fanfare that ushers in “The Game Gets Old” at the top of the record, to the stripped down Sam Cooke-style “Mama Don’t Like My Man” at the tail, the Dap-Kings dance seamlessly through both the most crafted and simple arrangements with subtlety and discipline. I Learned the Hard Way is the “Daptone Sound” at its finest.
To celebrate the release of their upcoming album, Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings will return to the legendary Apollo Theater in Harlem, USA on Friday, April 30th. As with their memorable performance at the Apollo Theatre two years ago, this will be a very special show where Sharon and the band will be joined by the full ensemble of percussion, strings and backing vocalists. Things look hopeful for a return to Australasia in the second half of 2010.
In recent news, Sharon Jones joined Grammy Award winning Canadian singer Michael Bublé on Saturday Night Live for a show stopping performance of their duet “Baby (You’ve Got What It Takes)” from Bublé’s chart topping, multi-platinum album Crazy Love.
“I LEARNED THE HARD WAY” RELEASED APRIL 2ND, 2010 ON DAPTONE RECORDS.
DISTRIBUTED IN AUSTRALIA & NEW ZEALAND BY SHOCK RECORDS.
